Repair, restoration & setup

Whether an instrument needs a simple adjustment or more extensive repair and restoration, our aim is to help it sound and play at its best while respecting its character and history.

We carry out work on violins, violas, cellos and double basses, including:

  • General repairs and maintenance

  • Instrument setup and adjustment

  • Hand cut bridges and soundposts

  • Reshooting and resurfacing fingerboards

  • Peg lubrication and fitting new wooden or mechanical pegs

  • Crack and seam repairs

  • Cleaning and varnish retouching

  • Bow rehairs and repairs

We offer professional repair, restoration and setup for violin family instruments, from everyday adjustments and maintenance to more extensive restoration work. We also make new instruments to commission from our workshops in North Wales.

Every instrument - and every player - is different, so we’re always happy to take a look, hear what you’re looking for and talk through the options together.

New instruments & commissions

We make new violin family instruments by hand in our workshops in Gerlan and Dinorwig. Each instrument is made from start to finish in the workshop, from the selection of wood through to varnishing and final setup.

Instruments are available to commission, giving you the opportunity to be involved in choices such as the model, materials, fittings and finish, as well as the character and setup of the finished instrument.

If you’re interested in commissioning an instrument, please get in touch to talk to us.

Not sure where to start?

Whether you have an instrument that needs some attention, are thinking about commissioning something new, or are looking to buy an instrument or bow, we’re always happy to have a chat. Get in touch, or arrange to visit us at the workshop.
